A strong triathlon tournament in Plovdiv

Plovdiv again hosted the international triathlon tournament “Plovdiv Cup - TriExtreme”. The now traditional competition took place on 5 August at the Rowing Canal (Grebna Baza) in the city. “Nova Trade” Ltd supported the competitors on a hot summer day with Bachkovo spring water, drinks and gifts. The eighth edition of the “Plovdiv Cup - TriExtreme” can also boast record attendance - more than 160 elite triathletes from Bulgaria and abroad stood at the start. By tradition, strong triathletes from Turkey, Greece, Serbia, Macedonia, Hungary and Russia take part, and in past years even from faraway Brazil. The Plovdiv Cup - “TriExtreme” was held in four starts for five age groups; for the older ones, over 18, the race was at the Olympic distance of 1,500 metres swimming, 40 kilometres cycling and 10 km running. In fierce competition, national team member Ivo Iliev won the men’s “Elite” category and deservedly became the holder of the big gilded Plovdiv cup with a time of 2 hours and 4 seconds. Second was TriExtreme’s Dimitar Genov, and third Valentin Kirov from Sofia. In the women’s race the hosts from Plovdiv’s TriExtreme had plenty to celebrate, as the champion’s title was won by Liliyana Boneva.
