Plovdiv Marathon 2021 became the most successful yet! Two records fell!
The sixth edition of the Plovdiv Marathon became the most successful so far! A total of 960 competitors crossed the finish line across the two distances. Of these, 251 men and 52 women tried the classic marathon distance, and 657 ran the half marathon, 190 of them women. Plovdiv Marathon 2021 has its new record-holders! The men’s winner over the classic distance was Bogdan Semenovich from Ukraine, who stopped the clock at 2:18:16. This year the organisers from the athletics club SKLA “Plovdiv Marathon” prepared a substantial entertainment programme along the whole route to keep the participants’ spirits up. Right in the tunnel under the Old Town the athletes were greeted by the Plovdiv brass band, and in Lauta Park they were met by a Kangoo Jumps show. A folklore ensemble took up the baton on Asenovgradsko Shose, and the rock band Chongi & the Smokers welcomed them on Maritsa Boulevard. As in previous years, the marathon programme included a run for children aged 6 to 13, held the day before the marathon, on Saturday at 10:30. They ran two laps of Tsar Simeon’s Garden along a pre-marked route and finished at Tsentralen Square, where a tasty slice of cake awaited them.
