Mayor of the Year 2017
The jubilee “Mayor of the Year 2017” ceremony was held for the fifth year in a row. Kmeta.bg, the only media outlet in Bulgaria that follows the work of all 265 municipalities in the country, honoured the best mayors. They were determined by online voting by citizens from all over the country, who had the chance to express their opinion and assessment of the work of the mayors and their teams. The vote began on 1 October and ended on 25 October 2017. With their votes, citizens chose the best mayors in 10 categories, picking a winner for a small, a medium-sized and a large municipality in each. The award ceremony took place on 27 October and was broadcast on BNT. The mission the organisers set themselves is for citizens to make use of the unique opportunity to give a fair assessment of their mayors by deciding which are the best mayors, working for the benefit of society not only in theory but in practice. “Mayor of the Year” is one of those projects that mobilise citizens and clearly show their sensitivity to governance. The competition is extremely useful because it draws mayors into a noble contest, namely one in the interest of citizens. It brings good examples and innovative projects to the fore. The initiative was carried out with the support of Bachkovo spring water.
