Horo near Pirin

On 22 June 2019 the international folk dance festival “Horo near Pirin” was held for the 5th year running. It brought amateur dancers from all over Bulgaria to the stage of the Summer Theatre in the town of Sandanski.

The first day of the festival began with a parade in folk costumes from Bulgaria Square through the whole town, all the way to the park. To the sound of drums and zurnas, the participants walked down the main street of the resort town.

The Sandanski brass band opened the programme. The talented girls of the Stoyanova sisters duo delighted everyone in the summer theatre with authentic Pirin songs sung in two-part harmony. The second day of the “Horo near Pirin” folk dance festival took place in the smallest town in Bulgaria, Melnik. It began with a presentation of the customs of Enyovden (St John’s Day) and moved on to the official part - the awards. For all the guests, the organisers had prepared a surprise: a concert by the popular Macedonian performer Volodya Stoyanov. He brought the successful 5th edition of “Horo near Pirin” to a close!
