Bachkovo spring water again supported the sporting event
The Balkan Cycling Championships for men and juniors were held on 28 and 29 July in the multi-purpose sports hall Kolodrum. Nearly 50 competitors from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey and Romania took part in the competition. Plovdiv hosted a Balkan Championship for the first time and, for the second year in a row, the Balkan Cup in track cycling for juniors and “Elite” men.
The competition is included in the calendar of the International Cycling Union and the European Cycling Union. Bulgaria won a champion’s title on the first day of the Balkan Track Cycling Championships for juniors and “Elite” men, which began at the Kolodrum in Plovdiv. It was won by national team member Nikolay Genov of CC Tsar Simeon 1898, who took the gold medal in the men’s scratch race. The 20-year-old from Plovdiv applied excellent tactics and reached victory with a strong final sprint, beating Oguzhan Tiryaki of Turkey by centimetres. Third was another Bulgarian, Radoslav Konstantinov, who rides for the French team Martigues and later added another bronze medal in the tempo race, where first place again went to Oguzhan Tiryaki. Alongside the championships, a competition for the Plovdiv Cup was traditionally held. The medals were presented by the Deputy Mayor for Sport, Youth Activities and Social Policy, Georgi Tityukov.
