The seventh winter edition of the Sofia Cup children’s football tournament, held under the auspices of the Bulgarian Football Union and Sofia Municipality, passed with plenty of positive emotion and sporting spirit. The tournament featured 72 teams and more than 1,300 young players born between 2006 and 2011, and its aim is to instil in children a love of sport, respect for their opponents, discipline, team spirit and, overall, a positive model for personal development. The matches were played over 4 days on the pitches of the Boyana National Football Base, DIT, Tsarsko Selo and the National Sports Academy. The oldest players (born in 2006) competed at the House of Football, and the matches from 21 to 24 February involved 8 teams divided into two groups as follows: Group A (Beroe Stara Zagora, Tsarsko Selo, CSKA London Football Academy and Botev Vratsa) and Group B (Zvezdichka Burgas, Verea Stara Zagora, Slavia Sofia and Belasica Strumica). Taking part in the awards ceremony were Mr Anton Popov, deputy executive director of our football headquarters, and Mr Valentin Chakurov, chair of the Zonal Council of the Bulgarian Football Union in Sofia.
